The 2017 Innsbruck Air and Style is the second out of 3 stops of this years tour. Held for the second year running at the Olympia World, the Innsbruck leg has become a mixture of skateboarding, live music and snowboarding. Whilst newcomers to the Innsbruck stop get a good mix of all 3 of these aspects, many regulars stated that they missed the unforgettable atmosphere of the previous location, The Bergisel stadium.  After years of debate and petitions, women were finally allowed to take part in this legendary competition. If you ask us the women put on a more of an exciting showdown than the guys.

 

 

Up first was the women, with 8 girls being selected to take their chance at becoming the first ever Air and Style Womens champions. Austria’s favourite Anna Gasser was literally killing it in practise by landing back double 10’s but unfortunately didn’t do enough in the semis to advance to the finals.
Katie Ormerod showed once again that she has all the makings of a future great with her cab 9’s that the judges deemed worth of silver spot. Enni Rukajärvi straight from her win at the Laax Open and the FIS event in Seiseralm was pulling out the cleanest back 7’s and cab 7’s that earnt her the gold and the title of the first A+S female champ with a score of 176.33. Sina Candrian placed a respectable third.

 

 

 

 

 

Up next after some live tunes was the men.
Max Parrot arrived beaming with confidence after his X Games Gold in Aspen and The Laax Open. The opinion dividing Canadian pulled out a clean Back 14 triple on his first run to take the gold. Hot on his heels was young gun, Marcus Kleveland who stomped a cab triple 16 on run number 2 to land the silver and yet another podium spot after a great start to the season. Our personal favourite trick of the night ( apart from Torgeir Bergrem’s method) goes to Sven Thorgren and his ultra stylish, cab 12 roast beef shifty shifty.

 

 

 

 

All in all the 2017 Innsbruck Air and Style remains an incredible spectacle and now offers more all round entertainment than your average big air competition. Whilst i’m not entirely convinced if snowboarding is the main focus of the event these days, none the less the riding was on point and a good time was had by all.
